Art and The Garden Tour 2010

The Lapeer Center for the Arts Council hosted our second annual
ART AND THE GARDEN Tour JULY 10th. Once again we showcased six properties around the beautiful Metamora countryside in southern
Lapeer County beginning at the historic Whitehorse Inn. Over 400 garden-goers and 50 volunteers joined us for a day of discovery
and relaxation with proceeds benefiting Gallery 194’s programming and operations...we probably raised over $5,000! That day in the garden
will help continue art education classes, Main Gallery exhibits and special events that enhance our cultural life all year long in the greater Lapeer community through Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer.

Garden Tour 2010 visual, culinary and musical artists will be featured here on our website in the near future through website links, artist bios
and news articles. We'll also post a few pictures of the big day soon.

Thanks to all the volunteers and home owners who generously donated their talent, time and homes!

Elevate the Arts!

Construction on our new elevator lift located in the southeast stairwell is
comeplete at the Gallery!

The Lapeer Center for the Arts Council (LCAC) raised funds toward the goal of
purchasing and installing an elevator that provid
es barrier free access to Gallery 194's spacious lower level. With financial contributions from the City of Lapeer Downtown Development Authority, the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Lapeer
County Community Foundation, Friends of the Arts, the Lapeer Rotary, Friends of Mabel Cobane, and the Lapeer Art Associatio
n
along with proceeds from Lapeer Montage sales,
we have reached our goal!

In the past the basement was sporadically used for art instruction, storage and
office space, depending on participants’ ability to negotiatethe stairs.  This capitol improvement “...creates a space for everyone which translates to permanent classrooms, studios, meeting and exhibit space along with a way to maneuver heavy equipment up
and down without risk of injury to staff and volunteers,” explains Gallery Director
Carolyn Manley McCarter. Our newly accessible space is available to rent at a
reasonable cost. Call Gallery 194 for details: 810.667.1495.

Future fundraising will continue to support capitol improvement and equipment
purchases at the gallery that will enhance our mission to enrich the quality of life in
the Lapeer community by advocating for and promoting the arts and to further
opportunities for involvement and participation in artistic and cultural activities.
