HIGH SCHOOL ART
D o w n t o w n: 2 0 1 0
HIGH SCHOOL ART DOWNTOWN: 2010 boasts the work of high school
students artists from around Lapeer County. This year's annual high school art
exhibit opens Tuesday, May 4th and continues through Saturday, May 22nd. A special
opening will take place Friday, May 7th at 6pm which will include music, food and
conversation with the artists. The event is FREE and open to the public.

Gallery 194 will host an opening reception for its current exhibit: URBAN Landscapes this Friday from 6pm to 8pm in downtown Lapeer. The reception includes food, wine and a film screening of artist Nicole McDonald's award winning documentary: "A City to Yourself" every half hour during the event. The event is free and open to the public. Gallery 194 is located on the corner of Court and Nepessing Streets next to the historic PIX Theatre. Call 667-1495 for more information.

Meet the Artist Demonstration
Many walked through the Gallery on Saturday August 22nd,
enjoyed sweet treats from Starbucks and observed as Lorna Poulos demonstrated
her paper mache skills.
Papier Mache Workshop
Featured artist Lorna Poulos instructed a paper mache clay workshop Later that day.
Artists of young and old alike sat and enjoyed creating a project involving paper mache clay.

Mirth Mockery and Mayhem from the Tri-Coastal State ascended on the
main gallery in 2009 featuring forty contemporary cartoon and
comic creators with ties to Michigan. This Eastern Michigan University traveling
exhibit included artwork from the pages of graphic novels, editorial pages,
popular magazines and underground comic books.

Comics & Cartoons 101
Accompanying the Mirth Mockery and Mayhem exhibit,
Eastern Michigan University Art History Professor and Exhibit Co-Curator,
Richard Rubenfeld, invited us back in time to explore
the world of cartoon art. Artists were on hand to enjoy Starbucks refreshments
following the presentation.
High School Art

Artwork from local and surrounding high school students graced the walls of the gallery this past May. Artwork included Charcoal, Sculpture, Portraits, 3D Art, Photographs, Watercolor, Pastels, and more.

The Degrees of Separation exhibit of Jason Cornish's work was a part of the Ag & Art Event January, 2008 sponsored by the Lapeer County Farm Bureau. This event featured a public viewing of the film Asparagus stalking the American Life created by Anne de Mare and Kirsten Kelly. Local farmers provided food items which were prepared by local chef's from Louie's. Isola's, and Chef Mike. Artist talk and reception followed the film.
Jason's work is currently on display
at the Huntsman Club in Dryden.

The Tao of Water
John Daido Loori, Zen Master and Artist, was featured in an Artist Talk and reception
Friday, July 25 2008, at Gallery 194 in downtown Lapeer at 7pm. Loori lectures widely on photography and the creative process at art centers, museums and universities around the country. His latest exhibit, The Tao of Water, was on display in downtown Lapeer through in August, 2009.
